SINGING BIRD SNUFFBOX

The Singing bird snuff box signed "Jaquet Droz London". Oval-shaped and made of silver and gold "doublé" (meaning plated), the box is decorated with a floral design that uses the "champlevé" enameling technique and an engraved background.
The gold lid revealing the bird postdates the manufacture of the piece as a whole.

An absolutely traditional mechanism is typical of Jaquet Droz: 2 x 4 shifting cams give a song in several keys, lasting longer than that of subsequent boxes. Small bellows produce the song, which is controlled by a wheel located behind the movement.
The bridges bearing the signature Jaquet Droz London are hand engraved with a floral motif.
